FAQs
What happens at a Via de Cristo weekend?
Every Via de Cristo weekend features nine talks, each lasting 15-20 minutes, delivered by laypersons on a variety of topics, including Leaders, Study, and Christian Community. Additionally, there are five clergy talks that explore different aspects and perspectives of God’s grace. There are specific chapel time where participants experience three meditations. Together, these fourteen talks and three meditations constitute the essence of the Via de Cristo experience, common across all weekends. Beyond these essential elements, a range of activities occurs during the Via de Cristo weekend to enrich and highlight the themes presented in the talks and meditations. These activities are thoughtfully envisioned, chosen, crafted, planned, and carried out by the lay director for that particular weekend, always under the consultation and guidance of a Lutheran pastor. In addition, all meals, snacks, and accommodations are designed with adults in mind. We strive to accommodate special dietary needs as well.
What Are The Requirements To Attend A Via de Cristo Weekend?
A Via de Cristo weekend is designed for Christians who would like to go deeper in their faith. It is also important that you have a sponsor who has been through a Via de Cristo or similar three-day weekend to guide you.
How Much Does It Cost To Attend A Via de Cristo Weekend?
Nothing more than your time of the weekend itself. The financial cost of attendance at a Via de Cristo weekend is a free gift to you.
What Is Expected Of Me After Attending A Via de Cristo Weekend?
That's entirely your choice. We sincerely hope you will take the insights you've gained and apply them in your life through your home, church, workplace, and recreational settings. It is recommended that you consider coming back to serve one time on a team, but it is no way a requirement. Neither the Via de Cristo community or your sponsor impose any obligation for further involvement in the Via de Cristo community.
If It Is Free, How Does Via de Cristo Receive Funding?
Via de Cristo of Western Washington is funded from individual donations, mostly from team members who work each weekend. We also receive a very limited amount of funding from fellow non-profits and fraternal organizations such as Thrivent Financial. We do not receive funding from any church.
