FAQs
What is Via de Cristo
Via de Cristo is a movement of the church patterned after the Cursillo movement, designed to help Christians deepen their faith and renew their commitment to serve Christ in the world. It typically begins with a 3-day retreat weekend filled with talks, worship, fellowship, and grace-filled moments.
What happens at a Via de Cristo weekend?
Over the course of three days participants hear a series of talks given by both laypeople and clergy, participate in small group discussions, enjoy worship and music, and experience community, prayer, and reflection in a Christ-centered environment. Beyond these essential elements, a range of activities occurs during the Via de Cristo weekend to enrich and highlight the themes presented in the talks and meditations.
What Are The Requirements To Attend A Via de Cristo Weekend?
Via de Cristo is open to adult Christians of any denomination who are seeking to strengthen their faith and live it more fully. We welcome those who are active in their churches and those looking for renewal.
How Much Does It Cost To Attend A Via de Cristo Weekend?
There is no required fee to attend. The cost of the weekend is covered by donations and generous sponsors. However, many attendees choose to make a voluntary contribution to support future weekends.
Do I need a sponsor to attend?
Yes, typically you will need a sponsor—someone who has previously attended a Via de Cristo weekend and can support you before, during, and after the experience. If you don’t know a sponsor, reach out to us—we’d be glad to help connect you.
What should I bring?
You’ll receive a list of suggested items once you’ve registered. Generally, you’ll want to bring comfortable clothes, toiletries, a Bible, and an open heart. Bedding, towels, and meals are provided.
What Is Expected Of Me After Attending A Via de Cristo Weekend?
That's entirely your choice. We sincerely hope you will take the insights you've gained and apply them in your life through your home, church, workplace, and recreational settings. It is recommended that you consider coming back to serve one time on a team, but it is no way a requirement. Neither the Via de Cristo community or your sponsor impose any obligation for further involvement in the Via de Cristo community.
How can I get involved or apply for a weekend?
You can talk to someone in your church who has attended, or contact us directly through our website or local leadership team. Applications are available online or through your sponsor.
